How do you set up AI lead scoring in HubSpot?
Choose what the score predicts
A score that predicts a booked meeting behaves differently from one that predicts a closed deal. Pick one outcome and keep fit, meaning the right company and role, separate from engagement, meaning recent activity, so reps can read why a lead scored as it did.
Rule-based or predictive
Rules are transparent and work from day one, which suits small teams and short histories. Predictive scoring needs enough closed deals with consistent data to learn from, and the tier that includes it. Many teams start with rules and add a model once the data supports one.
Wire it into the work
Use the score in workflows and views: route high scores immediately, send the middle to nurture, and leave the rest. Show the score where reps already look, such as their task queue or saved views.
Review it
Every quarter, compare conversion rates by score band. If the bands do not separate, check data quality first: empty company size or industry fields will weaken any model, built in HubSpot or elsewhere.
